Links that I’ve bookmarked in the past few days should be below the fold.
Wessex Archaeology News » Evidence of Ice Age hunters found below North Sea
Handaxes have been dredged up from the North Sea. They’re thought to date from around 100kyr, when the area was land. Because they’re so old they’d also be Neanderthal rather than modern human artefacts.
Can Elephants Gallop? :: Dammit Jim!
The first post poking holes in 10000BC I’ve seen. I haven’t seen it yet but judging from the trailer I’m expecting it to be slightly less accurate than Raquel Welch’s One Million Years BC. So long as it’s not po-faced it could be fun.
John Hawks Anthropology Weblog : 10,000 B[rainless] C[ontent]?
I’m not sure if I want to see the film or not now. Silly inaccuracies I can live with. A boring story would be quite different.
remote central: High Court Action Halts Quarrying At Thornborough Henges
Tim Jones on a temporary reprieve for an unusual landscape.
Jerusalén 3D, Web 2.0, canciones sobre Madrid y arte contemporáneo : Días del futuro pasado
Días del futuro pasado has a link to a 3D model of Jerusalem in the late 2nd Temple period. The post is in Spanish, but the model itself is in Inglés.
Why close the Textile Conservation Centre? at Past Thinking
Another HE closure and another petition. It’s depressingly regular. I’ll blog at more length about why this is a loss.
Here’s my thoughts on the movie 10,000 B.C..
10,000BC might be worth going to see just for all the bad history. I’m sure you’d catch a lot more of it than me. My favorite ahistorical part was the corn at the end. No reason to use corn. Could have used any seed. But they decided on corn. And domesticated corn no less.
