Links that I’ve bookmarked in the past few days should be below the fold.
Mali: 10th International Conference on the Study and Conservation of Earthen Architecture « Sociolingo’s Mali
Sociolingo Mail quite reasonably bemoans the lack of coverage of this conference, which looked like it has a lot to say about African architecture.
Aluka Blog » Terra 2008
Following from Sociolingo’s post, this blog entry from Aluka shows why Terra 2008 is such a big deal. When I get time I’m going to have to take a close look at Aluka, it’s very interesting site. It’s also a very big site, which is why I’ll need a lot of time to give it the attention is deserves.
Looting matters: Learning from the Gaps in the Display Cases
David Gill discusses Drake Bennett’s article in the Boston Globe and says why repatriation doesn’t mean the elimination of museum collections.
Illicit Cultural Property: Repatriation and Universal Museums

Text-based virtual worlds: an archaeological MOO « Electric Archaeology: Digital Media for Learning and Research
A MOO is MUD Object Orient oriented, and a MUD is a Multi-User Dungeon. It’s a multiplayer version of a text adventure. If you used something like the DIscworld MUD engine, I think you could certainly make some interesting ancient reconstructions in text. I don’t know about a contemporary dig though. I’ll have to have a look around.
Durrington Dig Video « Travelrat’s Travels
A video of the Stonehenge Riverside Project open day event at Durrington Walls by someone who lives locally. For odd reasons I ended up at Creswell Crags that day, so it’s nice to see what I missed.
The Local - Viking women had sexy style
I’ll have to get to Uppsala. But not till it’s warmer I think.
Ting och Tankar: Nya rön om vikingakvinnors kläder
More on Viking women’s fashion in Swedish, which I don’t read, and photos and links to other sites. I’ve got to admit I having seen the photos ’sexy’ is not the word that comes to mind. ‘Striking’ might be better.
Ohio Archaeology Blog: An Exceptional Flint Artifact
Could a projectile point found in Ohio have been an heirloom rather than a pointy thing to stick in bison? Not buffalo, never buffalo. That is one thing I do know about American archaeology.
A Don’s Life by Mary Beard - Did St Valentine exist?
One day I’ll write up my very sad Archaeology/Valentine’s Day story. But not today.
